Tra i pionieri pi\u00f9 influenti in questo campo c\u2019\u00e8 Sir John Whitmore, che nel suo libro \u201cCoaching for Performance\u201d ha definito il coaching come \u201csbloccare il potenziale di una persona per massimizzare la propria performance\u201d. Secondo Whitmore, ognuno di noi possiede gi\u00e0 le risorse e le competenze necessarie per raggiungere i propri obiettivi. Il ruolo del coach, quindi, \u00e8 quello di aiutare a scoprire ed utilizzare queste risorse, individuando ed eliminando le possibili interferenze.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">Durante i suoi studi , Whitmore
